There is no question that Facebook is an awesome place for meeting people and building relationships. The problem is that most people simply don’t understand that it is not a place for spamming people with your opportunity or business.
You don’t want to send out friend requests simply to market to those people that you just met. The best piece of advice I have heard when it comes to Facebook and social media in general, is to pretend that you are at a party in real life.
What Would You Do In Real Life?
If you pretend that you are at a party then you will most likely stop trying to sell people on your opportunity right after you meet them. Also, you will begin to start thinking of ways to build real relationships on Facebook.
In real life we usually meet people because they know someone that we know, or they are part of a group that we are in. The same rules applies online. If you join a certain group then chances are you are going to meet people in that group because you have things in common.
Get To Know Like-Minded People
So in order to start forming meaningful relationship with people online it is a good idea to join some groups that you are truly interested in and become active in these groups. You will be amazed to see some of the awesome people you will meet by doing this. If you treat Facebook like a party and treat people just how you would in real life then you will be a million times more successful than the person that runs around the party telling everyone about his awesome new business.

Ryan,
This is some very solid advice my friend. I do just as you have described and really just speak to folks on Facebook the way I would do with any of my friends.
In using this method of operation this allows me to gauge their reactions. If they are uptight about how I respond with them then I don’t even bother trying to form a relationship with them since they obviously don’t jive with who I am at a core level.
If they do respond favorably then I know that I have the potential of developing a life long friendship which may or may not result in a strategic business alliance.
Keep on rockin partner.

John

Thanks man that means a lot coming from you. I just installed CommentLuv, thanks for the recommendation.
Cool post. I really like the style of your website, is this a template thats freely avaliable? I’m going to create my own site up before long so i’m looking into different choices! Should I use WordPress or Blogengine? Any feedback would be very much prized. Thanks.

Hey Eura,
Thanks I appreciate it, this theme is called Fresh News by Woo Themes and I think it is like 70 bucks. If you are going to create a blog then you should use WordPress.org no question about it. There are many reasons why, but the biggest reason why you should go with WordPress is because you own it. If you go with Blogengine or whatever other site you will not own it, and therefore you have to adhere to their guidelines and structure. Again this is only one reason, but any serious blogger will agree that WordPress.org is the way to go.
Hi Ryan, Great post, I have been following you with your videos all weekend. you have great ideas and excellent teachings as for as Social Media is concerned. I have to learn this concept, thanks!

Hey Kyle,
Yes I am part of the 7 Figure Networker system, and I love it. The knowledge and tools that you get inside the system are top notch and I recommend it to everyone who wants to learn online marketing.
Thanks for stopping by man
Ryan,
Cool site man. What screen capture software do you prefer for tutorials like this? Also, you could not be more correct on the social media game. People have to quit pushing their product 5 times per day when we are just trying to hang out with others like us.

Thanks Terry, I appreciate that. I use screenflow… I have a mac so I found that to be a good option. If you are on a PC you may want to check out Camtasia, that is a very solid screen capture tool as well.
