Do You Share Your Marketing Knowledge?

Picture 67 Do You Share Your Marketing Knowledge? This is a question that every marketer should continue to ask themselves.  If you are trying to brand yourself as a leader and a teacher then you have to constantly be sharing what you learn with the world.  Not only does this give you credibility but it also helps you to understand the concepts better yourself.

If you are in a learning environment and you know before hand that you are going to have to immediately teach the same concept that you just learned with another group of students, then you are going to focus and learn the concepts a lot better for yourself.

Not to mention that when you do in fact teach the information it will sink in and you will understand it on a deeper level.

But Isn’t It Bad If I Share A Strategy I Learned From Someone Else?

When I first came online I remember thinking that if I took an idea from someone else and taught it that it would be like stealing or plagiarizing.  This would be the case if you were copying someone word for word, or if you blatantly took an idea and claimed it as your own.

On the other hand, if you learn and truly grasp a strategy or technique and then put it into your own words and you give credit to the person you learned it from then there is nothing to worry about.

One thing you will notice about all the gurus and teachers is that they are pretty much teaching the same information, the only difference is the way they teach it.  That is why it is so important that you add your “flavor” to the information that you are sharing, otherwise it is just the same ideas and concepts being recycled again and again.

Why Share What You Learn?

The quickest and most effective way to position yourself as a leader and someone who knows what they are talking about, is to share the concepts that you have learned.  Not only are you giving value to the community, but you are also putting your marketing knowledge on display.  This is a very powerful technique to give value and position yourself as a leader.

Another reason to share what you learn is simply because it is natural.  It is natural to give when you receive, or to teach what you have learned that has helped you.  It is unnatural to continue learning new concepts and new things without teaching them or giving back.  Compare it with breathing, do you think it is natural to keep inhaling without ever exhaling?  Of coarse not, that is why it is natural and beneficial to both you and everyone else that you learn and then share.

Once you get into the flow you can “capture” a concept, put it into your own words and then “release” it without any hesitation.  The funny thing is that most people (including me) think that they can store ideas and concepts in their head for future use.  The problem with this philosophy is that pretty soon your mind will be bogged down by all of these concepts and ideas that you haven’t yet shared.

What To Share And How To Share It

Anything that you have learned that has brought value to your life will most likely bring value to another person’s life as well.  With that being said you could share any concept that you have learned in a book, life experience or seminar.  There really are no rules when it comes to sharing you marketing knowledge.  In fact, it doesn’t even have to be marketing knowledge it could be something along the lines of personal development.  The key is to share things that will bring value to other people’s lives.

When you bring your own personality to the table you could have an impact on someone’s life who has heard the same concept 20 times before, but because of the way you said it it makes sense to them now.  The more people’s lives you impact in a positive way the more money and the more success you will have.

The power of the internet has made it possible for any individual to have an impact on many people’s lives.  We can communicate our message with people from all around the world, all from the comfort of our own home.  So share what you know with the world, whether it is marketing knowledge, personal development tips or whatever else.

  1. Great Post Ryan!

I totally agree. When to teach what we are learning, we just seem to show up differently in the learning process.

The more we teach, the better we actually feel about ourselves and the more social proof we create. And social proof is VERY important in the world of online marketing.

    Thanks for your leadership,

You have a choice so, make it a better than terrific day!

    Hey Ryan,
Totally agree! It is like if I don’t sit on the driver seat while I am driving, normally I don’t pay that much attention to the details on the road. When I know soon my next webinar is coming up in relating some knowledge I just learn, I surely would pay extra attention and cultivate the content in the way I think my audience can understand, just as you mentioned–a deeper level. Thank you for sharing! Let’s learn and grow together!

    Hey Ryan!

I really enjoyed your post and can see you spent some time on it. I absolutely agree that one of the best ways to ‘fix’ what we have just learned in our mind is to

    1. Apply it immediately and
    2. Teach someone.

There is something about teaching (helping others) that increases our self-esteem and confidence, and in the world of-online brand building it raises our credibility and reputations as leaders which as you said is a very powerful position yourself as a leader.

I’m looking forward to more ~ Maya

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on authentic leadership and what it takes to be an expert. The skills and knowledge you need to have mastered before you feel confident enough to help others acquire those same skills and experience. And it is on this last point that I wanted to add my thoughts to…

When you enter any new field of study or practice, your first thoughts are that you don’t yet know enough to be able to help others. What if they have a question you can’t answer, what if they know more than you and even how do I go about even sharing this newly acquired knowledge..?

These are all viable concerns but they will continue to grow in size and importance, fed by the pressure you can put yourself under! We are our own worse critics but others will not see us so. The people that are attracted to you at each stage of your development will naturally be less experienced in the techniques you are teaching. They will perceive you as being not only more knowledgeable than them, but someone that is not so far away from their journey of development as to be intimidating or unapproachable. Can you imagine getting your first lesson in business from Sir Richard Branson or Donald Trump!!! Amazing but totally overwhelming…

They are overwhelmed already with the swamp of information out there, they are conscious already of what they don’t yet know and they feel the pressure of the clock ticking. But don’t neglect yourself at this critical stage. As you make the transition, it is important that you yourself have a mentor, either on a formal or informal basis. That you mix with like-minded individuals and ensure you have the support of an online community in which to share experiences and a team that is committed to the same cause.

Above all, keeping learning, keep practising and keep sharing…it will only serve to enrich your development experience further. Ryan is a great coach, he knows his stuff and he could be the right mentor for you to help get you to the next stage of your development.

    Nina,

Thank you so much for your comment. This is so good that I believe you could turn this comment into an article simply by copying and pasting it to some article directories.

You nailed it on the head when you said,

“The people that are attracted to you at each stage of your development will naturally be less experienced in the techniques you are teaching. ”

Thanks again, talk to ya soon

  5. This post is really a gem! I can totally see you thought this one out really well. It was put together rather nicely.

And I have to completely agree with you. It seems that if I learn something new, and can explain to someone right away, I tend to grasp it better.

There really is no point in hogging all of the valuable information and knowledge to ourselves. There really is more happiness in giving than receiving. Well…receiving is really nice too. :)
